‘The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page’ – Saint Augustine
The idea of traveling to far flung places and enjoying a different view of the world is appealing to most of us; for this reason, along with many others, incentive travel is considered to be one of the most attractive rewards – and it’s easy to see why it’s so valued.
When people are rewarded with cash they feel guilty about spending the money on anything considered ‘frivolous’ so in most cases a cash reward will go straight to repaying a debt or buying groceries – not the warm, fuzzy feeling you’re hoping to invoke in a valued employee who’s met their targets, and definitely not a feeling that will engender employee engagement or brand advocacy.
Cash rewards are also easily forgotten, so apart from the anti-climax of spending the money on something responsible, whatever that choice was is easily relegated to the past – unlike a travel incentive. It creates a life-enhancing and long-lasting experience, those happy photographs will go up in the office and on social media, and every time that memory timehops, the person rewarded will remember the trip, why they went there, and who made it possible – their employer to whom they’re now more loyal than ever.
Travel incentives are a better motivator for changed behaviour than cash rewards – employees will work harder for travel and a luxury reward. According to the Society for Incentive Travel (SITE) incentive travel programmes lead to increased sales and productivity; better teamwork; and better employee retention with decreased turnover. Similarly, a study by the International Society for Performance Improvement found that incentive programmes ‘could increase performance of an individual by 22% and of a team by 44%’.
At The Incentive Company we understand that incentive travel is one of the most desirable rewards in any incentive programme, which is why we’ve proudly partnered with MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Events) specialists, Urban Ginga, who have over 20 years’ experience within the incentive travel industry. Collectively, we are able to deliver travel incentives that do the extraordinary – so if you want to drive behaviour and engender employee engagement and advocacy, call Debbie Ghillino on +27 10 020 2080 today.
